Coaching for Value
Our Coaching Services are exclusively focused on increasing the value of your business. We follow a structured and systematic process, customized to your particular value goals and targeted time frame.
The process begins with:
- You want to increase your business's value and contact us.
- We schedule and conduct a phone call with you to learn more about your decision to increase your business's value.
- If we both feel to take the next step, together will discover your business's current value range (Point A).
- If both of us are committed to build your business's value, we will start the coaching engagement to get to Point B
How much does it cost: Steps 1 - 3 are our investment into your business. The only thing you commit to is to complete the questionnaire tools we use that will establish Point A. Below we describe these tools further.
If we both commit to starting a coaching engagement, you will agree to
- use the tools we will make available to you.
- prepare for the monthly coaching meetings (Zoom)
- follow up on the action items within the time line we established together
- pay us a commitment fee of $2,500 per month
In return, we will agree to
- make all tools available to you
- meet with you monthly for 1 - 2 hours via Zoom
- prepare you for the meeting with an agenda, tutorials, and other information
- respond to questions via e-mail or phone call within 24 hours
Why a commitment fee?
We want your commitment to achieve Point B. The small monthly fee is intended to weed out those business owners who are not serious about putting in the time and effort it will take to reach Point B. You should expect a ROI of at least 10:1, our expectation is much higher than that.
How do we determine Point A?
We use 3 questionnaires that are part of The Value Builder System™ and may use proprietary data sources also. The Value Builder System™ has identified 8 factors that determine the value of a business, and is founded on the statistical analysis of more than 60,000 businesses. All other things equal (e.g., the economic environment), improving these factors will increase the value of a business.
The foundational questionnaire is the Value Builder Questionnaire. On average, the business owner will complete this questionnaire in less than 30 minutes. Completion of the questionnaire will generate a value range and will be the start to further determine Point A. Without having a completed questionnaire, we will not move forward.
The second questionnaire is the Personal Readiness Score Questionnaire (PREScore). Research has shown that 75% or more of sellers regret the sale of their business after one year. Completion of the questionnaire will give you an idea how prepared you are personally to transfer out of your business. Completing this questionnaire is not mandatory before an engagement has started but encouraged.
The third questionnaire is the Financial Freedom Questionnaire. For most business owners, the business is the largest asset in their portfolios. Completion of this questionnaire will give you an idea for how much you have to sell your business to meet all of your financial requirements for the desired lifestyle after the sale. Completing this questionnaire is not mandatory before an engagement has started but encouraged.
The journey to Point B
You have committed to reach point B. We will use the tools included in the commitment fee. Scenario planning, goal setting exercises, action plans, decision templates are all part of the tool set. We will explore which levers will increase the value the most in the shortest period of time, then establish priorities in what order we will work on improving the 8 factors that determine the value of a business.
Our role is to keep you on track, help you to overcome obstacles, to cheer you on, and if necessary to remind you about your commitment.
Consulting Services
For a limited number of business owners, we provide consulting services spanning the gamut from handling special projects to interim management. If you believe that you would benefit from services that go beyond coaching, we would be happy to explore your needs with you. All of our consulting services are based on a Statement of Work (SOW) and start at a fee of $5,000 per month. Currently we maintain a waiting list for consulting services.
